canada updates
Dec. 6th, 2007 04:51 pmHeel feels almost all better. I'm not sure if it was just going to get better then anyway, or if it's because I turned the ibuprofen up to 11, but whatever the reason, I'll take it. I walked up to Robson Street for dinner last night (Korean BBQ place) and again today for lunch (a crêperie, where the food tasted like crêpe). I walked over the seaplane port to ask about sightseeing rides (they won't go unless you bring two friends, so tomorrow I'm bringing two friends). I walked a couple of miles in Stanley Park. Now I'm tired.
Gorgeous day in Vancouver today. Blue skies forever. Still seems odd to look up at noon and see the sun low in the sky, though.
Canadian money is much prettier than US money. They've phased out their one and two dollar bills now and replaced them with coins. The two dollar coin is two kinds of metals--silver ring surrounding a gold-colored middle. I keep looking at it and thinking it looks like money, with a delicious candy center.
At the crêperie I paid $12 for lunch, froze while putting down the tip, and actually sat there for a couple of minutes trying to figure out what to do. Two deadlocked processes in my brain:
Eventually resolved the contention in favor of thread 1.
Now I'm off to the technical plenary.

- 1) 15% of $12 is $1.80, so two dollars is a nice generous tip.
2) I can't just put down a single coin for a tip! It's not even a very big coin! I mean, it's shiny and all, but still--one freaking coin? It's totally insulting!
