Twenty-odd years ago today, my friend Bill shared with me a fancy of his that what you're doing at midnight on New Year's Eve is what you'll symbolically be doing throughout the coming year. I've always liked that. Willa and I have adopted it as our own tradition, and tried to always be kissin' when midnight hits. Seems to work.

But last night I was up until past 3:30 in the morning with stuff rattling around in my head, and then of course the kid decided today was the day to have stomach troubles and need me to get up before 7.

Then came the many, many errands.

I'm concerned I may spend 2009 as a zombie.

Maybe you can at least be a kissin' zombie! Of course, if Bill really had something going, there would be a lot of people wearing funny hats, blowing noisemakers, and singing "Auld Lang Syne" all year.
